ECOFACT’s 6th General Assembly (Month 36): A Deep Dive into Sustainable Production Systems and More!

ECOFACT’s 6th General Assembly was hosted by TOFAS in Bursa, Turkey, in October 2023

ECOFACT recently concluded its 6th General Assembly, Month 36, held at the TOFAS factory in picturesque Bursa, Turkey, on October 4th and 5th, 2023. The two-day event brought together key players from the project, showcasing the latest advancements in sustainable production systems, energy efficiency, life cycle costing (LCCA), and life cycle assessment (LCA). Here’s a recap of the insightful sessions and activities that unfolded during this gathering of minds.

Day 1: Exploring Sustainable Solutions

The assembly kicked off with participants arriving at TOFAS for check-in, setting the stage for a day filled with knowledge exchange and collaboration. The agenda covered a range of topics, starting with a comprehensive project overview.

Throughout the day, Work Package (WP) presentations provided deep insights into various aspects of the project. From WP2 and WP3 focusing on specific project elements to WP4 and WP9 exploring innovative presentations, the day was a tapestry of ideas and progress. A much-needed coffee break offered a chance for networking, and the day continued with presentations from WP6 and pre-demos, along with insights from Athenian Brewery, Arcelik, TOFAS, and Gullon. The day concluded with a unique visit to the Anatolian Cars Museum.

Day 2: Wrapping Up with Insights and Tours

The second day commenced with presentations from WP5, WP7, and WP8, diving into further details and discussions. The incoming review meeting discussion offered a platform for sharing thoughts and perspectives, leading to valuable conclusions and outlining the next steps for the ECOFACT project.

After a final lunch, participants embarked on an enlightening tour of the TOFAS factory, gaining firsthand insights into one of ECOFACT’s demonstration sites. Divided into groups, they explored different facets of the factory, including the paint shop, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of resource optimisation strategies.

Francisco Morentin, ECOFACT’s coordinator, emphasized the active engagement of demo sites in gaining insights into consumption patterns and identifying areas for improvement in resource utilisation.

As the day concluded, participants were left with a sense of accomplishment and inspiration for the path ahead in creating a sustainable future.
