ECOFACT’s 7th General Assembly took place at one of its demo sites, Galletas Gullón
In April, ECOFACT convened its 42M General Assembly in the charming town of Aguilar del Campoo, Spain, on April 16th and 17th. This assembly represented a crucial milestone for the project, bringing together representatives from all consortium partners to chart the project’s strategic course moving forward.
Day 1: Project Updates and Collaboration

The first day of the assembly was marked by lively discussions and knowledge exchange among participants. The agenda commenced with a comprehensive overview of the project’s progress thus far, setting the stage for in-depth sessions covering various Work Packages (WPs). These included WP1 focusing on ECOFACT’s reference framework and methodology, WP2 exploring holistic monitoring and data acquisition solutions, and WP3 dedicated to the Energy and Resource Management System (ERMS). Insights from WP4 on dynamic LCA/LCC software, WP5 on the ECOFACT Platform and ICT framework development, WP6 showcasing demonstration sites, WP7 on standardisation and regulation, WP8 addressing replication and exploitation, WP9 focusing on dissemination and communication, and WP10 overseeing project management completed the day’s discussions.

Amidst these deliberations, attendees had the opportunity to sample biscuits produced by Galletas Gullón during the coffee break, fostering a relaxed atmosphere for further networking and exchange of ideas. The day concluded with a refreshing walk-through Aguilar del Campoo, providing a picturesque backdrop for informal discussions and reflections.
Day 2: Digital Educational Kit Launch and Gullón Factory Tour

The second day started with the launch of the “ECOFACT Digital Educational Kit” workshop. This initiative, spearheaded by CIRCE, aims to disseminate project knowledge through structured training activities. The digital educational kit, developed in collaboration with technical partners, is designed to educate diverse audiences on the project’s innovations and is being deployed in workshops across ECOFACT’s pre-demo and demo sites.
A highlight of the assembly was the exclusive tour of the Galletas Gullón factory, one of ECOFACT’s demo site partners. Renowned for their expertise in biscuit and cereal bar production, Galletas Gullón exemplifies sustainable productivity by integrating real-time monitoring and digitalisation into their operations. This partnership exemplifies ECOFACT’s commitment to driving industry-wide transformation towards greener manufacturing practices.
Throughout the assembly, discussions explored the profound impact of life cycle assessment (LCA), life cycle costing (LCC) analysis, and digital twin technologies on modern manufacturing practices. These insights not only informed current initiatives but also laid the groundwork for future innovations in sustainable manufacturing.
As ECOFACT continues its journey towards advancing sustainable production systems, stay tuned for further updates on our ongoing efforts and collaborations.
